At Jinan Thomas International School, two sisters who love the arts are sharing their passion through piano and song. G8 Ellie and G4 Elsa recently delivered outstanding performances at the 12th Hong Kong International Music Festival 2025 music competition, winning the first prize in the junior piano category and the vocal music category respectively, demonstrating exceptional musical literacy and artistic expression.

琴键上的蜕变：从抗拒到热爱的艺术旅程

Ellie自4岁开始学习钢琴，起初她对钢琴并不感兴趣，觉得练习占据了太多时间。她的姥爷——著名作曲、指挥家李百华老师——告诉她，钢琴是锻炼人音乐素质的重要乐器，能够让人静心思考、沉淀自我。在姥爷的耐心引导下，Ellie逐渐改变了对钢琴的看法，开始享受音乐带来的内心平静与成就感。

Ellie began learning piano at the age of four. Initially, she showed little interest in the instrument, feeling that practice took up too much of her time. Her grandfather—renowned composer and conductor Baihua Li —told her that the piano is an important instrument for cultivating musical qualities, capable of bringing inner peace and self-reflection. Under her grandfather’s patient guidance, Ellie gradually changed her perspective on the piano and began to enjoy the peace of mind and sense of achievement that music brought her.

In addition to her grandfather’s mentorship and the artistic influence of her family, Ellie’s piano teacher, Fei Song, also had a profound impact on her. Mr. Song not only loves piano but also emphasizes attention to detail and emotional expression in music. He often shares stories of famous pianists’ artistic journeys with Ellie, which deeply moved her and ignited her strong interest in the piano. “I hope to play as well as Mr. Song one day,” Ellie said. It was also Mr. Song who recommended her for this competition.

多年来，Ellie坚持利用课余时间练琴，不断提升自己的技艺。在香港国际音乐节的比赛中，她尽管十分紧张，却依靠平日积累的肌肉记忆稳定发挥，最终荣获一等奖。赛后她感慨道：“我非常珍惜每一次上台的机会，不是每次都有机会能在这样的舞台上表演，所以我会继续努力，争取走向更大的舞台。”此外，Ellie还担任泉城文化海外推荐官，积极参与中华文化交流活动，展现出全面发展的优秀素养。

Over the years, Ellie has persistently practiced in her spare time, continuously improving her skills. At the Hong Kong International Music Festival competition, despite feeling extremely nervous, she relied on the muscle memory built through daily practice to deliver a great performance, ultimately winning the excellent award. After the competition, she reflected, “I cherish every opportunity to perform on stage. Not every day offers such a chance. I will continue to work hard and strive for even bigger stages.” Additionally, Ellie serves as a Overseas Cultural Ambassador for the Jinan City, actively participating in Chinese cultural exchange activities, showcasing her well-rounded excellence.

歌声中的绽放：天赋与努力并重的成长之路

妹妹Elsa同样在音乐方面天赋出众。早在4岁时，她在和姐姐一起唱歌时被姥爷发现嗓音条件出色，自此开始系统学习声乐。她在第十一届和第十二届香港国际音乐节比赛中皆取得了一等奖的好成绩。

Elsa, the younger sister, also demonstrated excellent musical talent from an early age. When she was four years old, her grandfather noticed her vocal talent while she was singing with her sister, leading to systematic vocal training. She achieved remarkable results, winning first prize both in the 11th and the 12th Hong Kong International Music Festival Competition.

在今年的比赛中，Elsa演唱了经典英文歌曲《You Raise Me Up》。尽管有一段时间没有练习，歌词记忆有些生疏，但她没有退缩，而是投入更多时间训练。每天完成作业后，她都会加紧练习英文歌曲，争取在比赛中拿到好成绩。

For this year’s competition, Elsa performed the classic English song “You Raise Me Up.” Although she had not practiced the song for a while and was unfamiliar with the lyrics, she did not give up. Instead, she devoted more time to training, practicing English songs daily after finishing her homework, striving to achieve good results in the competition.

Elsa演唱时极富感情，能够深刻理解并传达歌曲的内涵，姐姐Ellie也称赞妹妹“不仅有天生的好嗓音，更难得的是拥有强烈的音乐感染力”。对于未来，Elsa充满憧憬：“我非常热爱音乐，希望以后能从事与音乐相关的工作。眼下我会继续努力，在我所热爱的事情上发光发热。”

Elsa performs with deep emotion, capable of profoundly understanding and conveying the meaning of the songs.
